USPS Healthcare Solutions™
Whether your business is a retail or specialty pharmacy that ships biologics or Class II narcotics, a large mail order pharmacy or a distribution center, USPS® works hard to understand your unique requirements and optimize domestic shipping solutions to support your business model.
All USPS products, services and other offerings are subject to the restrictions of the DMM, IMM and Publication 52, available at http://pe.usps.com.
Here are some of the ways USPS services the healthcare industry.
Tracking and Signature Services
USPS packages generally receive up to 11 scans from Acceptance to Delivery. The Postal Service™ has two Extra Services Codes, available through a Negotiated Service Agreement (NSA), used to identify shipments containing pharmaceutical and medical supplies in the Shipping Services File. USPS is working on a policy to allow shippers who are approved to use Extra Service Codes for pharmaceutical and medical supplies to retrieve delivery data for an extended period of time. USPS Signature® Services are also available for shipments that require a signature, whether it's restricted to an individual or an adult over the age of 21.
For large volume shippers, Business Service Network Specialists can monitor performance dashboards and provide performance reports to assist in proactively identifying and resolving issues.
United States Postal Inspection Service®
U.S. Postal Inspectors® throughout the country enforce roughly 200 federal laws related to crimes of theft, fraud and abuse of the U.S. Mail®. Sanctity of your package is the government mandated mission of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
Drug Recalls and Specimen Mail Back
Whether it is the urgency of pharmaceutical recalls, or specimen mail back to labs, domestic returns with the USPS are convenient and affordable. Postal carriers deliver to over 156 million delivery points six days per week. We deliver and pick-up where your customers live and work.
Same Day and Next Day Options
Retail and Specialty pharmacies have customers that may be too ill or too busy to pick up their prescription(s) and other desired items from the pharmacy. The Postal Service has Priority Mail Same Day™ and Next Day domestic delivery options available through a Negotiated Service Agreement (NSA) that specifies volume, pricing, and delivery service provided. Carriers can pick up items and deliver directly to your customer the same or next day.
Large Volume Shippers
The USPS provides cost saving options for large shippers when packages are presorted and inducted deeper within the processing network. This can help shorten delivery times, reduce handling, and realize cost savings.
Communicating With Your Customers
Use mail to inform your customers of product recalls or conduct customer surveys. Integrate mail with digital and help your customer base grow. It's a winning combination!
